BASED ON A TRUE STORY Original development was a collaboration between Australian performance company Ladykillers (Ingrid Voorendt, Zoe Barry, Gaelle Mellis & Astrid Pill), the rock band Hope Diamond in 2009 (Zoe Barry, Jed Palmer & Steve Griffiths) and award winning novelist Stefan Laszczuk. Together they developed a new live performance work. The subject matter – FATHERS.
BASED ON A TRUE STORY in 2010 development and performance is between Ladykillers (Ingrid Voorendt, Zoe Barry, Gaelle Mellis & Astrid Pill), the indie rock band Hope Diamond (Zoe Barry, Jed Palmer, Richard Andrew). Ladykillers engaged new media artist and musician Jason Sweeney (Panoptique Electrical, Pretty Boy Crossover, Mist and Sea) to create a site to amass myriad stories about fathers. Contributors are anonymously submitting memories, secrets, images, stories, phrases, scraps of stories, songs, associations, jokes, bits and pieces of text and also specific responses to questions posed on the website. We used these contributions as a starting point for a new live performance piece that will have the essence of a live music gig… we will slowly discover what form this will take.
We spent ten days in Nov 2008 at CarriageWorks, Sydney, as part of a residency through Performance Space, to begin research and play.
We spent 10 days in April 2009 at the legendary Adelphia Studios, Fitzroy, a FullTilt residency supported by the Arts Centre (Victorian Arts Centre Trust).
We spent 3 weeks in development and rehearsal at Bake House, Fitzroy supported by an Australia Council New Music Grant before the premiere season at the 2010 Adelaide Fringe.
ADELAIDE FRINGE 2010 season is at The Ed Castle, 233 Currie Street, Adelaide. February 23 – Mar 7 (various times). Tickets at 1300 FRINGE.
